The countdown begins!

Our chickens are officially 5 weeks old today. About two hours ago we moved them from the brooder in the basement into their permanent coop in the garage. My husband built the chicken coop into a corner of our garage. We debated long and hard about whether to build a coop in the back yard and finally decided to use the garage. Our winters are so long here that having the coop in the garage made the most sense. The chickens will have better protection from the elements and predators. It will be easier for us to take care of them and keep them dry and clean. I am pretty excited about the prospect of having fresh eggs in the coming months. It should be just about 3 -4 more months before that happens.
