Recently I spent time discussing seeing an MD or PA with a couple of friends who read this blog. I thought I might follow-up on that conversation here:
I agree that you should be told who you are seeing and have the option of requesting a MD. (Although that may not be possible in the military). My experience is that I've seen awesome PA's that I would gladly see over some MD's, and I've seen PA's that did not impress me. I've always been told who I am making the appointment with, and if it is something that is concerning me that I think may be out of a PA's scope, I will request the MD. With the exception of the military, you absolutely have the right to ask to see the doctor if you are not happy with your PA or NP.
