It doesn't seem right.

I do not come from a particularly close extended family. My mother was an only child and never had a strong connection to people other than her parents. I think this is why I never developed an interest in knowing my extended family. Somehow though I like to think I come from a fairly grounded family with strong work ethics and resourcefulness. It came as a shock the other day to read that the one cousin I did get to know while growing up was recently court ordered to go to drug rehab. Apparently he hasn't been able to keep a job and has been involved in some less than honorable activities. It goes to show you just never can put yourself or your family above being touched by this type of thing.
