Change is good (I hope)...

Our son has attended the same elementary school for the last two years. In that time he has gone from being inquisitive child eager to learn about the world to a bit of a behavior problem in the classroom. This is not to say he is out of control but is rather distracted and day dreaming. Every time we have approached the teacher, principle, or even the school psychologist to request special testing we have been put off. Our point of view is that he is quite simply bored silly. He is exceptionally bright and quite and advanced reader. The standpoint of the school is that they "don't want to let him advance to far". I see this more as a way of simplifying the services they are required to provide rather than something based in sound education judgment. Since when is holding back a bright child supposed to motivate them to enjoy learning? After many sleepless nights we decided to move him to another school and start fresh with a new and hopefully more motivation set of teachers. I am a bit worried thought because everyone we talk to says something different about each school and the staff we will or have interacted with....
