This cold weather makes me want an endless supply of hot drinks. This is one of my favorites to make. Not only is it quick and delicious but also CHEAP! Mix it up with your own additions to vary the flavor:
This creamy coffee and hot chocolate mixture is simply delightful. Try adding a dash coffee flavored liquer for some added flavor and warmth of a different kind. Regular or skim milk can be used with excellent results and vanilla or chocolate ice cream also is fantastic on top in place of the whipped cream.
4 cups milk
1/2 cup very strong hot coffee
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Sweetened whipped cream (optional)
Chocolate shavings (optional)
Combine all of the ingredients in a medium heavy saucepan. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until very hot and the chocolate is melted. Serve in warm mugs or glasses with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.
Makes 6 servings.
