Store those apples.

This year I picked a ton of apples. We made applesauce until we couldn't stand it anymore. Then I investigated different ways to store them. The best information was that they store great in a basement just set the box on a wooden pallet or a couple pieces of scrap lumber. They need to stay off the floor so that air can circulate around them. Do not fill the box more than three deep or the top apples could bruise the bottom apples, and cause them to go bad quicker. Cover your box with an old quilt or sleeping bag (doubled over is best) to keep them colder! This method works great on potatoes, too! I've heard if you wrap the apples individually in newspaper before you put them in the box they will keep longer, but I have not tried it! Happy apple storing!
