How did they do that?

I went out to my van yesterday to find the mirror hanging there. Not the entire mirror but the reflective portion. It seems someone must have whacked it going the opposite direction because the plastic part was pushed in towards the van. Parking in the street is always a risk but I wonder how someone got that close to hit it coming down the street? At least I popped it all back together for now...
