Baking Mixes

If your family enjoys buttermilk biscuits, pancakes, dumplings, or other baked goods they will love this mix. Store in a cool place or refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Use it exactly the same way you would use the commercial buttermilk mixes.

8 cups flour
3/4 cup dry buttermilk powder
1/2 cup non-fat dry milk powder
1/4 cup baking powder
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups butter flavored shortening

Whisk together the flour, buttermilk powder, dry milk powder, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Using a pastry blender, two knives, or your fingers, cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles a coarse crumbs. Seal in a tightly sealed container and store in a cool place or refrigerator for up to 3 months.
